Pope Leo XIV warns against the lack of faith in the first liturgy in the Vatican

The new Pope, Leo XIV, called on the Catholic Church to “desperate” to oppose the lack of faith in his first liturgy in the Vatican.

Spotting himself on Friday, the day after he was elected the first American leader of the Catholic Church, he warned that people were turning to “technology, money, success, power or pleasure” for security instead of the church.

Pope Leo also urged the cardinals to expand missionary information.

The ascension of the Chicago-born Robert Francis Presse, 69, is widely marked by 1.4 billion Catholics around the world, with joyful outbursts in Peru, where he was located for 20 years and in his American homeland.

In his speech, the new Pope said he was elected “loyal administrator” of the church and to lead him as a “beacon” to reach areas suffering from “lack of faith”.

“The lack of faith is often tragically accompanied by the loss of meaning in life, the neglect of mercy, the terrifying disorders of human dignity, the crisis of the family and so many other wounds that affect our society,” he said in Italian.

Pope Leo wore a white robe, trimmed in gold, as he turned to the sitting cardinals at the address of the Sistine Chapel, broadcast live by the Vatican administration.

On Thursday night, Prevost was introduced in the world as the new Pope Leo XIV to shake cheers from crowds gathered at St. Peter’s Square.

Appearing on the balcony of the Basilica “St. Peter”, his first words to the tens of thousands of worshipers, assembled, outlined a vision for a “missionary” church that “builds bridges that conducts dialogues that is always open.”

He sounded his predecessor, the late Pope Francis, calling for peace.

“Help us and to build bridges through dialogue, through a meeting, to gather as a nation, always in peace,” he said.

World leaders have rushed to congratulate a transth of his election, promising to work with him on global issues. US President Donald Trump called him “great honor” to have the first American pope.

Prevost, who also owns Peruvian citizenship, became only an archbishop and then a cardinal in 2023. He was elected leader by his fellow cardinals in just two days after voting in the secret conclave, which took place two weeks after Francis died.

It is seen as being brought in accordance with the late Pope, who is regarded as a progressive champion of human rights and the poor and celebrated because of his charismatic style, which seeks to make the Catholic Church more famous outside.
