President Donald Trump has said he has a Tiktok buyer, a video sharing app, which is banned in the US against the background of claiming a risk of national security.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said there was a group of “many wealthy people” ready to acquire the platform. “I’ll tell you in about two weeks,” he annoys.
Sales will need approval by the Chinese government, but Trump told Fox that he believes his President Jinping is “likely to do it.”
This month, Trump has been delayed for the third time the implementation of a law that necessitates the sale of Tiktok.
The last extension requires the mother -by -mother to achieve a deal to sell the platform by September 17th.
BBC contacted Tiktok for comment.
A previous Tiktok sale deal to an American buyer fell apart in April when the White House collided with China over Trump’s tariffs.
It is unclear whether the current buyer Trump says he is arranged, that he is the same as the one who waited in the wings three months ago.
The US Congress has passed a law forcing Tiktok’s sale last April, with legislators pointing to fears that the application or its mother company can transmit US consumer data to the Chinese government, which Tiktok refused.
Trump had criticized the application during his first term, but came to see it as a factor in his victory in the 2024 election and now supports his prolonged use in the United States.
The law had to take effect on January 19, but Trump has repeatedly delayed its implementation through enforcement actions, movements that have caused criticism of canceling congress legislators.
Tictak disputes the constitutionality of the law, but lost its appeal to the US Supreme Court.
