Aeroflot’s Russian National Airline said it has canceled dozens of flights after pro-Ukrainian hackers demanded an attack on the IT systems of the carrier.
In a statement by Hacking Group Silent Crow, she said she had the attack with the help of a Belarusian group of cyber -carriages.
Silent Crow told Telegram that its “long and large -scale operations … completely destroyed” Aeroflot IT systems.
Aeroflot said he had canceled more than 40 flights – most of them within Russia, but also including routes to Belarus and Armenia – which the Kremlin said was “alarming”.
The airline said a problem with its information system also led to widespread delays.
Silent Crow also threatens to release “the personal data of all the Russians who have ever flown Aeroflot.”
“The glory of Ukraine! Long live Belarus!”, The publication concluded.
The Belarusian groups of cyber -carriages said on their website: “We are helping Ukrainians in their fight against the occupier by conducting a cyber blow on Aeroflot and paralyzing the largest airline in Russia.”
Anton Gorulkin, a Russian MP, said in a statement: “We must forget that the war against our country is on all fronts, including the digital.”
Hacker groups regularly exaggerate their successes and whether this last attack causes permanent disturbances remains to be seen. The BBC failed to check any of Silent Crow’s claims.
However, the Russian prosecutor’s office confirmed that there was a “failure in the work of the Aeroflot information system as a result of a hacking attack” and said a criminal investigation was opened.
A number of passengers will be transferred to flights managed by other carriers, the transport ministry said.
The pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian hacker groups were extremely active after the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine in 2022. It is difficult to understand when their praise for various cyber-attacks are supported by facts.
These bands are often governed by volunteers who are aimed at organizations and exaggerate their attacks to make titles and worsen the enemy’s morals.
This attack is a rare one that has a visible and immediate impact on a large Russian company affecting tens of thousands of civilians as well as the company.
Silent Crow said they have worked with the long -established Belarusian Hacker Group of Cyber Partizes, which has been attacking goals in Russia and Belarus since 2022. Cyber guerrillas describe themselves as a “highly organized Hactivist team that is fighting for the liberation of Belarus from a Dietary rule.”
While many groups claim to be “haucit” – activists hackers – evidence indicates some of the close links to the security services of the countries they support.
As Moscow’s troops began a full -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, travelers in Russia often collide with interruption – usually due to attacks by Ukrainian drones.
Earlier in July, hundreds of flights were canceled at the four main airports in Moscow after a prolonged Ukrainian drone attack affecting tens of thousands of people.
