President Vladimir Putin has called on 160,000 men aged 18-30 years, the largest number of recruits in Russia since 2011, as the country is moving to expand the size of its military.
The spring call for one year military service came several months after Putin said Russia should increase its total military to almost 2.39 million, and the number of its active servicemen to 1.5 million.
This is a rise of 180,000 over the next three years.
Vice Adm Vladimir Tsimlyansky said the new recruits will not be sent to fight in Ukraine for what Russia calls its “special military operation”.
However, there have been reports of killings in the fight in the border regions of Russia and they were sent to fight in Ukraine in the first months of the full -scale war.
The current project, which takes place between April and July, comes despite the US attempts to build fire in the war.
On Tuesday there was no pass in violence, with Ukraine stating that a Russian attack on a power plant in the southern city of Herson left 45,000 people without electricity.
Russia also claims that another Ukrainian village has been captured, in a rose in the Donetsk region.
Russia is calling for sets in the spring and autumn, but the latest project of 160,000 young men is 10,000 higher than the same period in 2024.
Since the beginning of last year, the pool of young men available for the draft has increased by increasing the maximum age from 27 to 30.
As well as call notifications delivered by mail, young men will receive notifications on the Gosuslugi state services website.
In addition to its twice its annual project, Russia also called on a large number of men as contractual soldiers and recruited thousands of soldiers from North Korea.
Moscow had to respond to extensive losses in Ukraine, with over 100,000 confirmed by the BBC and the Medio as soldiers killed in Ukraine.
The real number can be more than double.
Putin has sized the size of the military three times since he ordered the troops to conquer Ukraine in February 2022.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has linked the increase in the size of the military to the “increasing threats” since December 2023. Both the war in Ukraine and the “continued expansion of NATO”.
NATO has expanded to include Finland and Sweden as a direct result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Finland has the longest NATO limit with Russia, 1343 km (834 miles), and Prime Minister Petri Orpo said on Tuesday that his country would join other countries adjacent to Russia by withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention, banning anti-perneral mines.
Poland and the Baltic States made similar decisions two weeks ago because of the military threat from Russia.
Orpo said the decision to resume the use of anti -herdone mines is based on military councils and that Finland people have nothing to worry about.
The Helsinki government also said that defense costs would be increased to 3% of economic production (GDP), compared to 2.4% last year.
