The Palestin Society Red Crescent (PRCS) said the bodies of their staff were discovered with those of six members of the Civil Protection Agency, managed by Gaza and one UN employee.
They did not say who found fire on the convoy – but Hamas accused the Israeli defense forces of the attack. The BBC has sought a comment from IDF.
In the statement on Sunday, the IFRC said the eight bodies of the PrCC workers were extracted “after seven days of silence and access rejected to the Rafa area, where they were last seen.”
He added that the ambulance officer Assad al Nasasra “is still missing.”
“I am broken by the heart. These dedicated ambulance workers responded to injured people. They were humanitarian,” IFC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain said.
“They wore emblems that had to protect them; their ambulances were clearly marked.
“Even in the most complex zones of conflict there are rules. These rules of international humanitarian law could not be more clear -civilians must be protected; the humanitors must be protected. Health services must be protected.”
IDF does not publicly comment on the statement of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent.
