The remains of a root woman killed by a serial killer were found after a search of a landfill in the Canadian province of Manitoba, police say.

Morgan Harris’s remains were restored to the Prairie Green landfill north of Winnipeg, staff said. Authorities were looking for Harris, 39, and at 26, Marcedes Mira, both of the Long Ordinary First Nation. Police say two sets of remains have been found.

Harris and Miran were among four root women killed in 2022 by convicted killer Jeremy Skibitsi, who dumped his bodies on two different landfills for a three -month period.

The demand for the green landfill began at the end of last year after a prolonged pressure on the pressure from indigenous leaders.

Cambria Harris, the daughter of Morgan, said in a Facebook publication on Friday that the discovery of her mother’s remains is a “very bitter moment”.

“Please hold our families in your hearts tonight and continue to be ahead every day as we trust this process,” the publication said.

Initially, police refused to search the depot and a federal government survey concluded that the search could take three years and cost up to $ 184 million ($ 100 million; $ 128 million), with workers being exposed to dangerous chemicals.

In the end, Manitoba promised $ 20 million to search the remains – funds combined by the federal government.

Skibitsky was sentenced in July last year for the murders of Harris and Mira, as well as the murder of a third woman, Rebecca Konthois, 24 years old, from the O-Ch-Chak-Co-Sippi First Nation, and the still-unified woman named Buffalo.

Their murders remained undiscovered for months, while a man looking for scrap metal in a bin outside the Skibitsi apartment found partial human remains identified as belonging to G -Ja Konthois.

Canada has long been confronted with a crisis of missing and killed root women and girls. According to RCMP, root women make up 10% of the population of missing women in Canada and 16% of women’s murders. Native women make up about 4% of the female population in Canada.
