Prosecutors and lawyers for Harvey Weinstein filed introductory statements on Wednesday in re -examining the disgraced film producer, with prosecutors accusing him of using his power in Hollywood for sexual abuse and harassment of three women.
“The defendant wanted his bodies, and the more they resisted, the more strong he received,” said an assistant prosecutor Shannon Lucy before the jurors on Wednesday.
In her third ordeal for five years, Weinstein has been accused of sexually abusing a former television production assistant, ambitious actress and model.
The former movie tycoon pleaded guilty and in court his lawyer tried to question the claims and authenticity of women.
Attorney Arthur Idala told the jurors that the prosecutor’s office would “fall to his face” after hearing all the evidence.
“They will ask you to make sense of things that just don’t make sense,” he said.
The Court of Appeal overturned Weinsstein’s previous sex crimes sentence in New York last April before being charged with new allegations of sexual assault in the state in September.
During the first week of re -examination, 12 jurors – seven women and five men – were selected to weigh Weinstein’s fate.
In the decision of last April, the Court of Appeal said that Weinstein, who was already 73 years old, did not receive a fair trial, since the judge who monitors his case allowed the testimony of women who were charged against him for behavior, he was never charged.
Weinstein was serving a 23-year sentence in a New York prison after being sentenced in 2020.
He was also found guilty of rape in a separate process in California in 2022 and was sentenced to 16 years in this case.
Budling in New York probably again includes the testimony of two women who have been charged with Weinsstein about his process in 2020. Actress Jessica Mann and former television assistant Miriam Haley testified at the time.
This time, the test will also include an unnamed woman who claims that Weinstein forcibly has oral sex on her at a hotel in Manhattan in 2006.
Weinstein has several medical conditions, including cancer and diabetes. In September, he was taken to a hospital for cardiac surgery and was conducted in a defense hospital ward.
A judge approved a request from Weinsstein’s lawyers to leave him to stay in the Bellevue hospital in Manhattan when he was not in court.
His lawyers complained that he was receiving poor medical treatment under unhygienic conditions in the infamous prison establishment on Rickers island – which employees have long stated that they plan to close – although this move is slowed.
A total Weinstein has been accused of sexual disorders, attacks and rape of over 100 women.
He will probably spend the rest of his life in prison as he has not yet begun to serve his 16-year sentence in California.
His prosecutors’ decision to go forward and his subsequent conviction in New York, a galvanic movement #Metoo against sexual abuse by powerful men.
Before the allegations against him appeared, Weinstein and his brother Bob were among the best players in Hollywood.
Weinstein is the co-founder of the Miramax movie studio, whose hits included Shakespeare in love, which won the best photo of the Oscar and Pulp Fiction awards.
His films have received more than 300 Oscar nominations and 81 wins.
The former movie tycoon also faces a number of civil cases, including a group of women who accused him of sexual harassment and rape and reached an agreement of $ 19 million (14.2 pounds) with him in 2020.
