Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great -grandson of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, came down from the bench to help the cremine to defeat Sasuolo 3-2 in his debut in Serie A on Friday.
Introduced with eight minutes remaining, 22-year-old Floriani Mussolini won the penalty shootout from which Manuel de Luca struck the winner for the newly given country, who was on top of the Serie A table with two wins in two games.
The right back, on a loan from Lazio, was an unused substitute in Cremone’s 2-1 victory in Milan in Milan in the opening of Serie A last week.
“Too many things have happened in too little time. I don’t think I will ever forget the night because I always dreamed of debut in Serie A,” said Floriani Mussolini.
“My goal was to make a change and I am happy that I was able to do it.”
Floriani Mussolini bears the Cremose number 22 shirt and has the name “Romano” on the back of her T -shirt.
He went through the ranks in Lazio, but never appeared in the Italian top flight to Biancoceles.
He was loan to the third division Pescara in 2023-24 and Juve Stabia in the Second Division in the 2024-25 season.
Following his winner against Czech last December, some reports claim that Juve Stabia’s supporters celebrate the goal with fascist greetings – a statement that the club firmly rejected.
When he joined Kremose in the summer, Floriani Mussolini said it was “here to play football”, adding: “My family bothers other people more than I am.”
Benito Mussolini founded the National Fascist Party in Italy and led the country since 1922 until it was overthrown in 1943. He allied himself with Adolf Hitler in World War II and was captured and killed in 1945.
