Rwanda illegally occupied the Democratic Republic of Congo and tries to organize the regime change, the foreign minister of the country told the BBC.

Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner said this followed for decades of impunity and failure to take advantage of Rwanda President Paul Kagame for violation of international law.

Her comments come after the Rwanda -supported rebels M23 won the eastern Combine city of Goma and threatened to continue their offensive in the capital Kinshasa.

Rwanda government spokesman Yolande Macolo denied the prosecution and said its troops were located to prevent the conflict overflowing into its territory.

“We are not interested in war. We are not interested in annexation. We are not interested in changing the regime,” G -Ja Macolo told the BBC Newsday program.

The South African Development Community (SADC), a regional block, composed of 16 members, holds a special meeting on Friday in Zimbabwe to discuss the situation in Congo.

SADC has sent peacekeeping troops, mainly from South Africa, to Dr. Congo to fight armed groups such as M23 and restore peace in the mineral region after decades of unrest. Sixteen SADC soldiers were killed in clashes with M23 around Goma last week.

At the war of words with his South African counterpart, Rwanda Kagame President said that SADC troops were not “peaceful forces and there was no place in this situation.”

Ms. Macolo said Rwanda’s troops secured their limits in response to “multiple violations”, including the deaths of cross-border firing.

“The DRC has to do a better job to get its territory. It’s their responsibility,” she said.

D -Ja Wagner called for the suspension of foreign assistance sent to Rwanda and the sanctions to be placed on the leaders “who allow this war.”

She also called on Rwanda’s troops to be stopped by UN peacekeeping missions worldwide.

“We have to witness a country that presents itself as a peace bringer in other countries, to be (yes) warming up in the Great Lakes region,” she said.
