The military government in Myanmar said at least 2000 people were killed in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, which hit last Friday.

“The death rate over 10,000 is a great opportunity,” according to US geological studies.

The Burmese Army, which has previously downplayed civilian victims after other major natural disasters, does not allow foreign journalists in the country.

From neighboring Thailand, Nick Bull of BBC Cerify builds a picture of the impact of the earthquake in the most affected areas we know about.
