Snapchat caps free Memory storage, launches paid storage plans

About a decade after serving as a digital time capsule for a few moments from your life, Snapchat is now keeping a price on its memory features. The company told TechCrunch in an email that the launch storage plan provided 100 GB of storage for $ 1.99 per month. Snapchat+ users will get up to 250 GB storage as part of their $ 3.99 monthly subscription, while Snapchat Platinum users will get 5 TB as part of their $ 15.99 monthly subscription.

Snapchat explains that when it first launched the memory, it did not expect what it was today, because users have saved more than 1 trillion memory on the platform.

Snapchat will provide 12 months temporary memory storage for any memories that exceed 5GB storage limit. The company notes that users can download memories directly on their device. If you go out of limits, do not sign up for a plan, your oldest snaps will be saved, while the latest storage limit will be removed.

Snapchat says that the change will not affect most users, because the huge majority has 5GB memories. It will basically affect them with “thousands of snaps”, the company notes.

The decision to introduce storage provided for the memory is to address the increasing infrastructure while keeping the free access to most users and the users to cash with high storage needs.
