In Orebro and London
ReutersThe Syria Embassy in Stockholm says that the Syrians were among the 10 victims of a weapon, who carried out the oldest shooting in Swedish history at a school in Orebro this week.
The suspect, called at a local level like 35-year-old Ricarda Anderson, was killed in the attack, but the police have not yet identified him and did not give a motive.
The message from his embassy on his Facebook page was the first indication of who was killed in the attack on Tuesday at the Risberg school.
This did not give details about the number of Syrians caught in the attack, but said: “We offer our sincere condolences and sympathy to the victims’ families, including expensive Syrian citizens and friendly Swedish people.”
Anna Bergquist, head of the police investigation, told the BBC that police could only confirm that people from multiple nationalities and ages were caught in the attack.
Salim Isief, a 29-year-old Orthodox Christian who fled the Syria war in 2015, has been declared one of the 10 victims of the shooting.
Santa Maria’s church in Orebro said his life had ended tragically in the attack. The Swedish reports said he became a Swedish citizen and was supposed to marry in June.
Aunt told him on the Arabic Alkompis website that he had made a video of his mother to say he was shot and asked her to take care of her fiancé.
Two Bosnne citizens are also among the victims, Bosnia’s ambassador told Swedish Daily Expressen. One was injured and the other was missing, he said. The Bosnian Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences and spoke about the large Bosnian community of Orebro.
Orebro police said the alarm was raised at 12:33 (11:33 GMT) on Tuesday and after about five minutes the first patrols reached the school, which is located in a large educational campus about 200 km (124 km) west of Stockholm.
Regional police chief Lars Warn told a press conference on Thursday that 130 police officers eventually reached the school.
They were confronted with what could be described as “infestation” when they entered the school buildings on Tuesday, he said, “Dead people, screaming and smoke.”
He talks about the scene of chaos, with people running inside and outside a very large school, which extends about 17,000 square meters.
Wilen told the BBC that there was no evidence that the bombs had blown up, but said there was a thick smoke that could come from suspect fires or smoke grenades.
He said they believed that the suspect had fired at the police, but that the employees did not shoot back. The shooter was found dead at the scene more than an hour later.
Police investigator Anna Bergquist said the suspect had killed himself.
She confirmed that three rifles were found at the scene next to the arms, a total of four, which is known to have been legally registered in the suspect.
However, she declined to comment on the types of weapons or ammunition.
CopyrightPolice remain tightly attached to both suspects and to the possible motive behind the attack.
Bergkwist explained that the delay in suspect name was due to the waiting of DNA samples to be compared.
Swedish police are usually cautious about the name of suspects and usually does not do so before the accusations, but Bergquist said he was expecting to make an exception in this case and released a name in the coming days.
The Risberg School provides adult education for people over 20 years of age who have not completed elementary or secondary school, as well as Swedish immigrant classes.
Young residents in Orebro had already expressed fears from a racial element in the shooting, and the Syrian statement confirmed that immigrants were among the victims.
A video broadcast by Sweden’s TV4 was recorded during a school toilet pistol attack, in which the words “Far from Europe!” are heard.
It is not clear who calls the words and the police are careful not to discuss a motive.
However, Bergkwist seems to have refused an early statement by authorities on Tuesday that the motive for the attack is not ideological.
“Why they said this, I can’t comment,” she said. “We look at different motives, we will declare it when we have it.”
Ricard Anderson is described locally as a hermit and a report on the Swedish website Aftonbladet suggests that his attack may be aimed at local social services.
A source told the site that he had argued with a social worker after losing his well -being, since he did not do enough to find a job.
Police said earlier that the suspect has no previous sentences, no visible links with bands, and they do not believe that the attack is motivated by terrorism.
