Span In just a few years, drone has played a vital role in the war. Ukraine, Iran, Nagarno-Karabakh, Sudan and elsewhere have shown conflicts that autonomous vehicles have become a fifth part of the modern war.
This is a fact that Taiwan knows all very wellThe Island race, fear Imminent attack from ChinaNeed to create a strong and advanced drone program, both knowledge and art are necessary.
Nevertheless, Taiwan, which has set the ambitious goal of producing 1.5 drones every year by 2021, is fighting to create from scratch. Last year, it produced less than 10,000.
“Taiwan certainly has the ability to make the best drone in the world,” Kathy Fang, the policy analyst of the Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology (DSET).
So why not?
Fang and his colleagues published a long report on June 16, which Taiwan’s drone industry reveals how comfortable the industry has been. According to their research, the country has produced 1 to 5 inhuman aircraft vehicles (UAV) in the last one year, the “structural challenge” stands on the current rate and in the way of ambitious goals. Their survey has shown that Taiwan’s drone production has been stagnant by “high production costs, short domestic collections and minimum foreign government orders”.
Fang and other DSET researchers briefed the wire about their report details in their Taipei offices in May.
Taiwan has lived under the threat of Chinese aggression for decades, but recent years have turned it into a more immediate prospect. Beijing has made it clear that it wants to complete the aggressive modernization of the Liberation Army by 20227; Taiwan officials say the attack may come first, but it is almost certainly that the current term of Premier Xi Jinping ends in 2021 before the current term of the office.
Although there is competitive opinion about any form, the Chinese military aggression can take, Taiwan military analysts fear that it can be a fully combined weapon attack: first from the aircraft and sea, then the entire land will be attacked.
This means that Taiwan is a must to protect itself and to bring innovative solutions to speedy. As an American commander commented in 2021, Taiwan’s self -defense means that Taiwan Strait would be turned into a “hellscape” -bombarding arriving Chinese ships and aircraft with blocked aircraft and naval vehicles. This technique does not need to be directly destroyed by the Chinese Navy and the Air Force, but there is no need to disappoint Beijing’s progress for Taiwan allies to hold his defense rally.
Taipei is already doing something of this right. In 2022, the government launched a drone national team, a program that matches the government and industry to make the Nessent Field. Specifically, the team was sent to learn lessons from Ukraine, whose protective technique depends a lot on small, strategic, cheap UAVs capable of performing multiple missions and closely integrated with ground units. Today, the country has proud of a huge domestic drone industry, Kiev is planning to buy 1.5 million small drones this year at the top of its autonomous land car and its involuntary naval drones at the top of its long -range involuntary missile program.
