Universal Music Group (UMG) – which is the largest music band in the world and the owner of the recording labels behind the mega stars Taylor Swift, Drake and Lady Gaga – has applied to sell their shares in the United States.
The company, which is already indicated in the Netherlands, has an estimate of the stock exchange there of almost € 50 billion ($ 43.3 billion; $ 58.5 billion).
The international superstars Music Powerhouse also includes Eilish, Ariana Grande and Harry Styles.
This move comes as two main sharing indexes in the United States – S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite – closed with fresh record maximums on Monday, as the stock markets continue to recover from a brief decline in fears caused by President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.
UMG said in a statement that he had filed a confidential statement with the US Financial Market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The potential public offering remains the subject of SEC review, he added.
The company did not reveal the size of the planned US supply or how much it can increase.
Confidential documents allow companies to maintain information private while engaging with regulators and evaluating the investor’s appetite for shares sale before disclosing details publicly.
The billionaire’s investor Bill Akman Hedge Persing Square, who is one of the largest UMG shareholders, before pushing the company to list in the United States.
In January, Akman published on X that a US list would push the value of UMG.
“We also believe that the US list will significantly improve the liquidity of trade in the shares,” he said.
The global music conglomerate has large recording labels, including Motown Records, which was home to Marvin Guy and Michael Jackson.
He also owns the Capitol Music Group, which reports the Beatles and Katie Perry among his artists.
In 2024, UMG participates in a dispute with Tiktok over the remuneration.
The order saw UMG’s music muted or removed from the social media platform while both companies reached an agreement In May of the same year.
