A teenager has died after being attacked by a shark in Queensland, Australia.

The paramedics responded to reports of a “serious shark bites” on Woorim Beach, right north of Brisbane, around 16:45 local time (06:45 GMT) on Monday, at Queensland Service Service wrote to X.

Police have confirmed that the girl has suffered life -threatening injuries and died shortly after 5:00 pm. Australian media reported she was 17 years old.

The waters around the beach are home to many sharks, but the attack has become near the shore of a popular surfing, which has measures to protect against sharks.

Police have confirmed that the girl has been swimming in the waters near Bribi Island – right next to the continental part on which Wari’s beach sits – when she was attacked by the shark whose appearance has not been identified.

The Queensland ambulance service confirmed that the victim had suffered life -threatening injuries to her upper body.

It was bitten on the hand about 100 meters from the shore, messages in the Australian media.

Christopher Potter arrived at the beach shortly after the attack. He told ABC News: “There are many swimming groups that swim here, in the morning and afternoon.

“It is known that there are many sharks around Bribie, but the one near the shore is still a shock.”

The waters near the beach are protected by drums – barrels anchored to the seafloor that have hook lures to catch sharks that approach too much.

The target species caught in them are then euthanized while other species move and release.

Police said they would prepare a report on the incident on Monday about the corona.

This is the second fatality of sharks in the waters of Australia this year after surfer Lance Appleby was killed off the coast of southern Australia on January 2.

The last fatal attack in the Big Brisbane area came in 2006, when 21-year-old Sarah Waed was killed while swimming with friends.

Queensland’s shark attacks “rarely occur and most types of sharks do not pose a risk to people,” according to the state government website.
