The crowds flock to a free beach concert in Brazil

Big crowds are present at a free Lady Gaga concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazilian authorities say more than one million people are at the event.

The concert is paid by the city in an attempt to revive Rio’s economy and they expect it to bring $ 100 million (£ 75 million) to the local economy.

Saturday’s performance is part of a promotional tour of Lady Gaga, Mayhem, whose songs include Abracadabra and Die with a Smile.

Some fans – known as Gaga’s “little monsters” – began to fear early in the morning and waited in long lines to gain access to the beach.

There is a large -scale security operation, with the police officer on duty and the participants must go through metal detectors. Authorities also use drones and cameras to recognize persons to help police at the event.

Lady Gaga is not the first person to play a free concert in Rio. Madonna gave a concert on the beach Copacabana in May 2024, which was also paid from the city.

Many people have traveled from all over the country to see the concert.

A man, 28-year-old Luan Messias, said he had spent all night on a bus from Yatanham in Sao Paulo’s neighboring state.

“I can’t wait for her to sing Abracadabra, it’s great to dance like her early things,” he said.

22 -year -old Alisha Duarte told AFP agency that she had started queuing at 0740 in the morning. “Lady Gaga is worth it! It will become super crowded, but we will survive,” she said.

Another fan, Paul Oliveira, explained why people were so excited about the concert. She “tells us that we can be who we are, that we can be different and that we are different is cool,” he told Reuters.

This will be an “unforgettable show,” a concert participant Lai Borges told Reuters. “It will be emotional and I will cry a lot,” she said.
