Former Gabon President Ali Bongo, who was overthrown in a coup in 2023, has left the country and is now in Angola, authorities said there.

Bongo’s family lawyer Francois Zimerai welcomed the release of their clients and denied their “arbitrary and cruel prison”.
Bongo’s wife and son, Sylvia and Niddin, have been faced with corruption and have been detained since 2023.
They have not yet publicly commented on the accusations, but they have identified their customers as “torture” while being kept in what was described as underground cells.
“Sylvia and Nuddin Bongo will finally be able to turn the page, cure and restore their lives,” said G -Ni -Zimery.
The BBC contacted Gabon’s presidency to comment on the release and subsequent departure of the Bongo family in Angola.
Authorities have previously denied being subjected to Sylvia Bongo and her son to cruel treatment.
Gabonese Prosecutor Edie Minang says that the release of G -Ja Bongo and her son is simply temporary because of poor health and that court proceedings against the two will continue.

Ali Bongo, whose father Omar has ruled Gabon for more than four decades, had been in power for 14 years until the coup 2023.

His wife and son were prisoned and then released earlier this week after the request of Bongo’s family lawyer, according to G -N Minang.

Sylvia and Nuddin Bongo are accused of appropriating public funds, with D -Ja Bongo specifically faced with falsification, money laundering and counterfeiting documents.
During his 14 years of power in power, the Bongo family was accused of accumulating wealth for themselves at the expense of the country – accusations they deny.
Although Gabon is a nation -rich nation, one -third of its population lives below the poverty line, according to the UN.
In a sign of warming up the relations between Gabon and its continental counterparts, the African Union again accepted the country to its block at the end of last month after its membership was suspended due to the coup.
