The first Black Republican Congress Woman Dies

Mia Lav, the first American Black -Rebel Congressman, died at 49 in Utah, her family announced.

She died quietly on Sunday, surrounded by her family at her home in Saratog Springs, a statement said.

Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, had presented Utah in the House of Representatives.

Her daughter Abigale said earlier this month that love no longer responds to treatment of brain cancer.

“In the height of the holiday of her life and an avalanche of happy memories, Mia quietly tucked the groups of mortality, and as always, his words and vision were always made in heaven,” the family statement, which was published on X, said.

Paying a tribute to love, Utah Governor Spencer Cox wrote: “True paths and a visionary leader, Mia inspired countless Jutani through her courage, grace and unwavering faith in the American dream.

“Her inheritance leaves a lasting, positive impact on our country. We will miss it deeply.”

Mia Love’s political career has officially started in 2003 when she won a place in the Saratog Saratoga Municipal Council, and later became mayor, 34 years old.

In 2014, she was selected in the House of US Representatives. The daughter of the Haitian immigrants, she made history as the first Black Republican woman to take on the role and serves two terms.

Her offer of re-election four years later ended with a thin defeat of the razor of her democratic rival Ben McAdams.

Love was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rapidly moving and aggressive form of brain cancer in 2022 and received 10-15 months for living-which it exceeded.

Her death comes almost two weeks after love wrote Opinion of DESERET newsWhat she said “does not say goodbye, but to thank you and to express my live desire for you and America, which I know.”
