Former Zambia President Edgar Lungu died at the age of 68, his party said in a statement.

He “has received specialized treatment in South Africa” for an undisclosed disease, said the Patriotic Front confirming the news.

Lungu has led Zambia for six years since 2015, losing the election of current President Hakainde Crichilem with a big margin.

After this defeat, he withdrew from politics, but later returned to the fight and seemed to have ambitions to run for the presidency again.
