Niger’s military ruler has been sworn in as president of the country for a transitional period of five years.

Gen Abdurahaman Tchiani has run the country since 2023 after depoting Niger’s elected President Mohammed Bazum.

On Wednesday, Tchiani, Tchiani, took the presidential service under a new Charter, which replaces the Constitution of the West African country.

It is also promoted to the highest military rank of the Army General in the country and signed a decree to dispense all political parties.

During a ceremony in the capital Niami, Gen Tchiani, said about his new military rank: “I get this distinction with great humility … I will strive to live until the trust in me.”

The transition to a democratic rule is in accordance with the recommendations that a committee made after national discussions.

This five -year period of time is “flexible” depending on the state of security of the country, says the new Charter.

Niger has been struck by a jihadist attacks for many years – one of the problems that the Junta leaders cited in organizing their coup.

The military absorption followed a string from others in the region – adjacent Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso are also managed by Huntas.

All four countries divided ties to the former colonial power France and dug new unions with Russia.

And all with the exception of Guinea have escaped from Ecowas, a regional block of West Africa.

Niger’s relations with Ecowas fell apart when the junta proposed a three -year transitional period to democratic rule immediately after the coup.

Ecowas called this plan a “provocation” and threatened to intervene with the use of force before declining.

The Gen Tchiani administration pursues former President Bazum on the allegations of state treason and undermine national security.

Bazum is still being held at the Presidential Palace with his wife, while his son received a temporary message last January.

According to the State Information Agency AnP, Gen Tchiani said that Niger’s new Charter is in line with traditional constitutions, but also undertakes “unprecedented measures to protect our natural resources so that Nigenis really takes advantage of the exploitation of their wealth.”
