The Mexican Mayor, arrested for suspected ties with a cartel training camp

Prosecutors in Mexico have arrested the Mayor of Tuchitlan in Western State Jalisco as part of their investigation into a nearby cartel training site.

The mayor, Santia Santiago, is suspected of knowing in CJNG.

The investigation started after activists discovered bone fragments and hundreds of discarded shoes, backpacks and clothing on Izaguir’s ranch outside the city in March.

Right groups said they were afraid that the ranch was used as a “extermination camp” where people were forced and trained, and those who refused were tortured and killed.

The discovery of people who are looking for their missing relatives for what seems to be proof of mass murder in the place, shocks the country where the craft violence is huge.

Mexico Prosecutor General Alejandro Gerz gave a press conference last week, updating journalists for the federal investigation into the ranch.

He confirmed that the site was used as a Jalisco New Generation Recruiters Center, one of the worst and most powerful transnational drug trafficking bands that has its power base in Jalisco.

However, he said there was no evidence that he had been used as a place for destruction and cremation.

According to the Prosecutor General, the bone fragments have found that there are no recent and forensic tests suggest that the fires lit on the ranch will not be hot enough to throw away human remains.

GERC’s statements have sparked anger among the “seekers”, the name given to relatives looking for over 120,000 people who have been reported to have disappeared in Mexico over the last two decades.

They said that his press conference raised more questions than answers, and failed to turn to whom the many abandoned shoes on the ranch belong and what happened to these people.

GERC insisted that the authorities would continue to consider whether there was a secret agreement between CJNG and local officials.

Mayor Murgia Santiago is part of this ongoing investigation.

Before his arrest, the mayor had said he had nothing to hide. “If they want to investigate me, let them be clean and ready to say what I know,” he told the local media.

But prosecutors claim that he knew about the existence of the training center and did not act on this knowledge.
