The Congress Committee in Peru has rejected an investigation by President Dina Bolurate for alleging that she had accepted Rolex’s clocks as bribe.
The subcommittee’s decision means that Boluarte – whose approval estimates are in one -digit figures – is protected from impeachment production while in power.
However, she can still face accusations when she leaves the post next year and lost her presidential immunity.
An investigation into corruption called “Rolexgate” saw her home, attacked by police in March 2024, with authorities looking for more than a dozen luxury watches that Boluart is said to have not announced.
The investigation began after a news report drawn attention to the luxury watches he wore at public events.
The raid took place after prosecutors refused her request for more time to respond to the summons asking to provide proof of purchase for their watches. The government of the government was also attacked.
Last year, the Government of Peru described the attack as “disproportionate and unconstitutional”.
The Bolurate insisted that she had entered the government “with clean hands” and that she would “leave it with clean hands”, claiming that her Rolex was an old object that she bought with the receipts of work from the age of 18.
The president also faces a separate probe because of the unannounced two -week absence in 2023 for a nose surgery during which she does not delegate the powers.
The Bolurate became president after her predecessor Pedro Castillo was prevented when he tried to dissolve the congress and rule a decree.
Dozens of people were killed in clashes after the cast of a castle in violent protests who called on the Bolurta to withdraw.
The next presidential and legislative elections will be held in April 2026.
