The president of a figure of Myanmar, who came to power after a coup in 2021, Myint Swe, died, said the nation’s military leaders in Southeast Asia. He was 74.
Before his death, Mint Su had has been on medical leave for more than a year due to the reduction of health.
The leader of Junta Min Aung Hlaing is largely fulfilling the ceremonial obligations of Myint Swe from July 2024.
The country’s junta pointed to the MYINT SWE acting post after she overthrew the civil government, led by Aun San Su Key.
He died in a hospital in the capital Nay Pyi Taw at 08:28 local time (02:58 GMT) on Thursday due to “neurodegenerative diseases and associated with neurological disorders,” the junta said.
A state funeral is scheduled for Myint SWE.
As a president, he approved numerous extensions in the state’s state of emergency.
On Wednesday, the State World Newspaper “Myanmar Light” published a Junta statement reporting that Myint Swe was in a “critical state” after “experiencing weight loss, loss of appetite, fever and decline in cognitive function” in July.
In early 2023, Myint Swe “began to experience a sluggishness in the movement and ability to consume food and nutrients,” the statement said.
He added that he received treatment in Singapore in April 2024 and went on medical leave in July 2024.
Myanmar is in trouble after the coup of 2021, maintaining a civil war between the forces of the Junta and the ethnic armed groups.
Min Aung Hlaing announced in March that the country would hold the December 2025 national elections or January 2026 – the first vote after the junta seized power in the coup.
But critics say the election is a shame designed to maintain the junta power through proxy political parties.
Last week, Myanmar’s junta ended the state of emergency and transferred the power to a temporary government to pave the way to the election.
But Min Aun Carring, who remains the position of president and military chief, retains factual control over the country’s leadership.
