Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu resigned and his Social Democrats party is to leave the government after a right -wing candidate for nationalist won the first round of the presidential election.
George Simion, a Eurosceptic, who promised to put Romania in the first place, won 40.9% of the vote on Sunday and is expected to win a vote on May 18.
He will face the Liberal Mayor of Bucharest Nikuer Dan, who closely defeated the Social Democrats (PSD) candidate.
Ciolacu told the party’s supporters that since the coalition failed to achieve its goal and “no trust after the Romanian vote, I will suggest that PSD is leaving this coalition.”
His party had come to power in the pro-EU coalition after an election of December 1, 2024, although George Simion’s far-right party, along with two other groups, attracted one-third of the vote.

Chiolaku is now expected to resign to the temporary president or Bolodi, who will then appoint Prime Minister to the viewer.
Bologian himself took on the role of a temporary president last February because of the scandal surrounding the cancellation of the presidential vote.
