The white South African farmer, accused of killing two black women, says he was forced to feed his pigs on pigs, according to lawyers.
Adrian de Waet is one of the three men who are against murder allegations after Maria Makato, 45 -year -old, and 34 -year -old Lucia Ndlovi were killed while claiming to be looking for food on a farm near Polokan in the northern Limpopo province of South Africa last year.
Their bodies are then claimed to have been given to pigs in an obvious attempt to dispose of evidence.
Dan de Waet, 20, turned a state witness when the trial began on Monday and said that farm owner Zaharia Johannes Olivier shot and killed the two women.
Mrs. Makgato and Mrs. Ndlovu were looking for dairy products that were left for pigs when they were killed.
Dan de Waet, a farm leader, will testify that he was under compulsion when he was forced to throw their bodies into the enclosure of pigs, according to the prosecutor’s office, and his lawyer.
If the court accepts his testimony, all charges against him will be dismissed.
The case caused outrage in South Africa, exacerbating racial tension in the country.
Such tension is especially more in rural areas, despite the end of the Apartheid racist system more than 30 years ago. Most private agricultural lands remain in the hands of the white minority, while most farmers are black and poorly paid, nourishing the resentment among the black population, while many white farmers complain of high levels of crime.
William Mussora, 50 years old, another farmer, is the third accused. He and the Olivier, 60, will still be on legal basis and remain behind bars after their warranty applications do not fail.
The three men are also against accusations of attempting to murder with the spouse of the spouse of Ga -Ndlov, who was with the women on the farm – as well as the possession of an unlicensed firearm and defeating the edges of justice.
Musora, a citizen of Zimbabwe, faces an additional charge under the South Africa Immigration Act on his status as an illegal immigrant.
The Supreme Court of Limpopo was full of supporters and relatives of the victims before the proceedings.
The members of the Opposition Party Economic Freedom fighters, who had previously called on the farm to be closed, also attended the courtroom.
The test was postponed until next week.
