In a world first, the wildlife researchers clicked and posted a photo of one of the most outraged African animals – a rare and relatively unknown antelope called Upemba Lechwe.
Researchers conducted an air study in the depression of Kamalono, an area in the Southern Democratic Republic of Congo, which noticed only 10 of the antelopes – showing that their population was below 100.
Manuel Weber, who guides the study and subsequent researchdescribed the species as “on the edge itself”, according to a statement of UPEMBA National ParkS
UPEMBA LECHWE are known for the lack of dark stripes on their feet unlike other antelopes in the area, The researchers sayS
They are also distinguished by the lack of dark spots on the shoulders.
The area, which has been opened, Upemba Lechwe is a “magic place in terms of biodiversity,” Ver Weber told the BBC.
However, he warned that it was an “incredibly challenging” environment in terms of conservation.
He said several issues, including increasing human population, fishing and hunting, putting the ecology “at risk” in the areas of ecology.
The fact that the Upemba Lechwe is “still hangs at all is exceptional,” added Weber in a statement from the national park, but warned that they would “disappear” without “emergency protection”.
“This may be our only chance to save this species.”
According to the study published in The African Journal of Ecology, this is the first attempt to explore the species for more than 50 years.
Dr. Congo has a history of famous wildlife photographs.
