EPAThe triple murder Erin Patterson has stolen “years of love and laughter,” said members of the victim family, poisoned by her lunch for toxic beef Wellington, they said.
The 50 -year -old Patterson was found last month guilty of killing three relatives – and tries to kill another – eating a sponge with a sponge of death in July 2023.
At a hearing on Monday, before his September 8 sentence, a group of relatives gave emotional statements about the impact of the brutal death of their loved ones.
The only survivor of lunch, local pastor Ian Wilkinson, said he felt “half alive” without his late wife Heather – but made a powerful offer for the forgiveness of the woman who killed her and almost took his life.
In the days of eating at Patterson’s home, her former laws Don and Gail Patterson, both 70, died in hospital, as well as Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson, 66 years old.
Wilkinson became desperately, but recovered after liver transplantation and weeks of hospital treatment.
Patterson’s alienated husband Simon Patterson was also invited to lunch, but withdrew at the last moment. He accused Patterson of a long -standing campaign to poison him “But three accusations of attempted murder associated with him were rejected on the eve of the trial.
One after the other, in a quick order, on Monday, the court listened to a series of statements about the influence of victims, describing in detail how Erin Patterson’s crimes blew up two close families.
Patterson talks about their inability to formulate how much they missed their parents. Ruth Dubios – the daughter of Ian and Heather Wilkinson – told the court that Patterson used his parents’ natural kindness against them. Don Patterson’s 100-year-old mother shared her grief that she outlived him.
But Ian Wilkinson in the witness box glued the courtroom. He almost did not say a public word from the fatal lunch, but today he went into court and encountered the woman who killed his wife, threw away the life of his two best friends and left him on the verge of death.
Sitting against Erin Patterson, G -N Wilkinson opened his statement, paying tribute to his “beautiful wife”.
“She was compassionate, intelligent, bold, witty – just a delightful person who loved to share life with others,” he said.
“If he could help someone you would.”
“I only feel half alive without her,” he added.
Patterson not only robbed him of growing up with his wife, but his children to their mother, said G -n Wilkinson, but she also took his two best friends, Don and Gail Patterson.
“They were good and solid people … We were encouraged and supported for about 50 years. My life was very impoverished without them.”
Turning directly to Patterson, he asked what “stupidity” made her think “murder can be the solution to her problems” – especially given that the crime was committed against people who carry her only goodwill.
As the pastor approached the end of his statement, his voice became more pronounced and stronger as he spoke about his desire for justice before offering Patterson his forgiveness.
“I do not tolerate her bad will. My prayer for her is that she uses her time in prison wisely to become a better person,” he said, to gasp in the courtroom.
“I’m no longer the victim of Erin Patterson. She fell victim to my kindness.”

Through a family spokesman Simon Patterson, he also told the court about his grief – which is complicated by the “abrasive” trial and during a time of “saving” media Melstrom, which followed the crimes.
He noted more in particular the suffering that in the last few years they have caused his children, who now have to face life without grandparents and his mother – something that caused his alienated wife to tingle breath.
“Like all of us, they face the frightening challenge of trying to understand what she has done,” his statement said.
“The gloomy reality is that they live in an irreparable home with an independent parent when almost everyone knows their mother to kill their grandparents.”
He swore that he would continue to follow the example his parents put him in, taking advantage of the power of God and reflecting his love.
“However, I am true, they are with God and I will see them again,” he said.
Among the other relatives to read their statements in court was the only surviving sister of Gail and Heather, the brothers of Don Patterson and his nephew, who grew up the idol of the former teacher at school.
“I always wanted to be a hearty heart like him,” Tim Patterson told his uncle. “How can anyone improve … leave the earth that way?”
“Years of Love and Laughter” were stolen as a result of the killings of his relatives, he added: “(s) the world is more overwhelming for that.”
Prosecutors ended the hearing, claiming that Patterson should be sentenced to life in prison without probation.
Jane Warren told Patterson’s court actions to be considered a “top crime category” – pointing out the required level of planning and that if she was clean for mushrooms when asked by the authorities, the life of her victims could potentially be saved.
In addition, the prosecutor’s office claims that Patterson spent the days after noon, having evidence and a lie to the police.
“This is a crime that is so cruel and so terrifying that in our presentation the criminal does not deserve the mercy of this court,” said Gia Warren.
Patterson’s lawyer Colin Mandy agreed that nothing but prison life would be appropriate, but claims that conditional release should be resolved, as his client’s notoriousness means that she is likely to spend a lot of prison in isolation.
Justice Christopher Biel will pass his condemnation in Melbourne on September 8th.
