The tech behind Rivian’s 2026 Quad Motor truck and SUV — and that kick turn

Spread the love

When Rivian begins to take orders for his 2026 quad motor pickup truck and SUV, customers may primarily be tempted by energy and are tempted by the techniques that can release four motors of these rebooted EVs.

After all, four motors provide a combined 1,025 horse power and 1,198 pound-foot torque-and it is hard to exclude up to 60 miles per hour per hour in less than 2.5 seconds.

However, they should also pay attention to their software.

“The quad is really final of what the quad has done,” the company’s software chief Wasim Bensoide provides a punch list about rapid acceleration, speed, torque and approximately 374 miles range. “Now we have the whole motor from house to house, we have full control in stacks, hardware and software”

This control has allowed Rivian to introduce a number of new features, which will roll out through software updates on the quad-motor this September. (Customers can order quad-motor trim by starting today with delivery early next week.)

The feature that perhaps the most tiktok video and Instagram reels inspire the “kick turn” is a feature that adjusts energy to internal wheels and let the vehicle spin about its center – even as running. Kick Turn Test Test Test during a press drive in June, allowing a vehicle to travel under 20 miles per hour on the dirt allows to remove its back edge and remove the steering wheel on the right or left. The idea is to give the off-roders the ability to create tight turn in trails without pressing a button on-roders and the tedious work of a three-point turn.

Rivian fans and followers may recall any promoted, but never revealed, “feature”Tank TurnThe “Power and Tire Grip controls the Kick Turn, TankCrunch’s real-world and toned down version because its founders and CEO RJ scoring and others are worried that tank turnouts will not create a company that has created a large part of its brand.

If the driver is in the same place and the car is spin in a circle, the kick turn can still be used objectionablely. However, some software -driven maintenance in the Rivian feature has been maintained, which is to limit speed and simply allow it to spin the dirt.

The second generation overhall

Rivian published the first-generation quad-motor configuration during the Washington Press Drive in May 2024, to display it Its flagship R 1 lines overhallThe This reboot touches the electric architecture, interior seat, censor stack and software user interface from each inch battery pack and suspension system.

This effort, which has managed to create its larger elements at home, reduces its EVS effectiveness and the cost of producing and improving the application.

Delivery Dual-Motor Trims of the new dual-motor and performance began almost immediately, followed by the tri-motor configuration by August 2024. Quad-motor, which is the most expensive and powerful trim, software features and embedded systems to develop and refine and how they worked in addition to motor, suspension and thermal management, how they worked.

And the steaks are higher that the Rivian quad-motor gets right. Rivians are highly expected and cheap and 2 vehicles cannot be expected to go into production until the first half of 2026. Rivian is hoping that the new quad-motor, which depends on the car trim, starts between $ 125,990 and 115,990, will encourage sales. And the software is a critical part of its bid.

If four motors (a one in each wheel) are the heart of the second-generation quad-motor, the software is the brain that works all together.

Bencide points to the development of advanced torque vetering and balanced algorithms introduced in the second-generation quad-motor.

He said, “Think of the super-complex as mathematical processing behind the screen to allow it to use real-time and decide on the basis of information from four wheels and then four motors,” he said.

In fact, what is the meaning of the quad-motor R1 SSUV and the numerous sensors of the R1 trucks provides the Yao rate, steering angle and other input data, which are later fed to software models to control the torque. In other words, each cycle of Rivian in-house hardware and software works together in real time to electronically distribute energy.

Software fills the hardware

It has allowed the EV maker to introduce kick turn as well as other software-millit-haridware features with its “RAD tuner” in quad-motors, allowing users to change the driving dynamics of the vehicle through central touchscreen. The RAD tuner created a team known as the “Rivian Adventure Division” by a team of engineers, software developers and designers.

According to Benside, the original story began several years ago.

“Every time we go to the software or vehicle version test and qualify, we have an engineering screen that is hidden with the secret code,” he said. This is where the primary Rivian employee and R2’s Chief Engineer Max Cough and R 1’s Chief Engineer Luch Lunch configured the car at their desired car – a practice that often pushed vehicles into a new limit. “And it developed in this concept of making this tuner available to the customers.”

With RAD tuner, drivers can create their own customized driving mode from scratch or create presets such as “assembly” or “sport”.

Benside said, “We completely control users through the software so they can portray their vehicle’s unique personality,” Beneside says that adding this special feature is truly for expert drivers.

Beneside emphasized that it is more than a common change in the user’s interface that allows drivers to tinkle around with balance, durability and height of the journey.

“I think what is actually important is the technology behind it,” he said. “For example, this torque balance, we have been able to configure it with a very ordinary slider-this is a few years of engineering development that contains a highly sophisticated torque vectoring algorithm that allows us to change the quality of our driving while driving. It is extremely difficult to make these types of changes.”

The company is also turning a launch CAM feature, which automatically uses an outgoing camera recording to capture the “launch mode”, which can catalt up to 60 miles per hour to new R 1 quad-motor in less than 2.5 heart-pumping seconds. Users can re-play videos and watch real-time statistics like the speed and distance overlay calculated by in-house control software. Users can export videos to a mobile device via USB port to save and share.

Nacks charging and much more

2026 and R1S vehicles with quad-motor are also built with North American charging standards, which were originally developed and popular by Tesla.

It offers the owners of the 2026 model that Tesler quickly accesses the huge network of charger, known as the superchargeer. Rivian Quad-Motor is providing a compliment CCS DC adapter to customers, which have recently been a long-lasting EV charging standard, allowing them to plug in other networks.

As part of this hardware upgrade, the company has also updated its software, especially the EV charging trip planner. Now when a customer opens the trip planner and selects an NACS station, the information is updated to the trip planner so that they do not need any adapter.
