The Trump Administration seeks to withdraw up to $ 100 million to fund Harvard

The Trump Administration will direct US federal agencies to review their Harvard University grants to end or redistribute funding as part of the White House’s escalating battle with the largest university in America.

The Government Agency for Service (GSA) plans to disseminate a letter to the agencies, “ask them to identify any contracts with Harvard and whether they can be canceled or diverted elsewhere,” said a senior White House official.

The administration estimates that about 30 contracts, collectively worth $ 100 million (£ 74 million), can be scheduled for review.

Harvard University did not immediately answer a request for comment.

On its website, the university says that its “avant -garde medical, scientific and technological studies” were historically “supported by the federal government” and other organizations.

By performing research by the institution for cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases and obesity, the university’s website warns that “without federal funding, this work will stop the middle stream.”

The White House will not cancel the funds automatically, and will soon launch a review of money Harvard receives from the federal government to determine whether this funding is crucial in the eyes of the administration.

The GSA will recommend to every agency “to terminate for convenience any contract that determines that it has not been able to meet its standards” and to consider redirecting these funds to other organizations.

The White House and Harvard have been imprisoned in a political, legal and financial battle – bets have drastically escalated over the last two months.

This is not the first time the administration has tried to block Harvard’s funding. In April, the White House froze $ 2.2 billion in federal funding, prompting the university to judge.
