Some families from the killed in a Jeju Air plane crash last December have filed a criminal appeal against 15 people, including the Minister of Transport of South Korea and the Airline Executive Director for professional negligence.

The 72 injured relatives call for a more in -depth investigation into the crash, which killed 179 of 181 people on board -making it the most deadly plane crash on the South Korean soil.

The crash was “not an ordinary incident”, they say, but “a major civil disaster caused by negligent prevention of preventable risks.”

For almost five months on, authorities still study what may cause the plane to collapse at Muan International Airport and then burst into flames.

Police had already opened a criminal investigation before this last complaint and banned Jeju Air Executive Director Kim A-Bay to leave the country, but no one was charged with the incident.

One of the relatives, Kim Da-He, condemned the “lack of progress” in investigations.

“We are filled with deep anger and despair. After taking this extraordinary measure to file a criminal complaint, we will not give up and continue to pursue the truth,” Kim said in a statement to the media.

Among the 15 people referred to in the complaint were civil servants, airport airline officials, responsible for the construction, supervision, management of the facilities and the control of the birds.

The complaint filed on Tuesday raises questions about the circumstances of the crash, including whether the control of the air traffic responds appropriately and whether the intensification of the mound at the end of the track violates regulations.

The aircraft, Boeing 737-800, took off from the capital of Thailand in Bangkok on the morning of December 29 and flew to Muan in South Korea.

Five minutes after the pilots contacted Muan International Airport, they reported a bird strike and announced a signal for May.

The pilots then tried to land from the opposite direction, during which the plane unfolded without its landing. Later, he overcomes the track stuck in a concrete structure and exploded.

Earlier this year, the investigators said Found bird feathers in both engines of the jet, but did not conclude how much the bird’s impact is a factor.

After the incident, some victim families were also directed by a Torrent of conspiracy and malicious jokes onlineS

These include suggestions that families were “excited” to receive compensation from the authorities or that they were “false victims”. As of March this year, eight people were detained for making such shameful and defamatory online publications.
