A woman was killed in Australia and thousands were forced to escape from their homes after the torrential rainfall caused floods in North Queensland.

Authorities warn that floods can increase to the second floor level in a situation that they define as dangerous and life -threatening.

More than 700 mm (26 inches) rain has fallen to parts of the North Queensland in the last 24 hours and there are fears that “record rainfall” will continue on Monday, according to Queensland David Chrisafuli.

Meteorologists say this can be the wicked floods in the region for more than 60 years.

CrisAfulli said the conditions are unlike anything that the North Queensland has experienced “long time”.

“This is not only the intensity, but also the longevity of it,” he told Australian television operator ABC.

Thousands of people living in the town of Townsville were told to leave their homes by noon on Sunday while authorities brought 100,000 bags of sand to block floods.

Parts of the road between Townsville and the Kernes Tourist Center are cut off, making it difficult for effort to get rescue teams and sandbags in the area.
