Trump calls on Thailand and Cambodia to end the trade in fire and conversation

Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had had conversations with the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand as the two sides sought “an immediate cessation of fire” after borderline clashes.

But he said Thailand “would like to see the Cambodian side’s sincerity on the subject.”

At least 33 soldiers and civilians were killed, while thousands of Thai and Cambodian citizens were displaced by the outbreak of fighting on July 24.

Trump said The fact that he was eagerly awaiting commercial conversations with Cambodia and Thailand, although it was not appropriate to have discussions while the “fighting did not stop”.

He intervened a week before US tariffs for Cambodia and Thailand have to come into force.

Starting 1 August, US delivery businesses in Thailand or Cambodia goods will have to pay 36%tax unless an agreement can be reached before.

“When everything is done and peace is nearby, I look forward to concluding our trade agreements with both!” Trump wrote.

Thailand and Cambodia accused the other of fired first in this last clash.

The dispute between the two countries dates more than a century when the borders of the two nations were drawn after the French occupation of Cambodia.
