US President Donald Trump said he had a “long -lasting and highly productive” telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, in which leaders agreed to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
In a publication in his social platform for the truth, Trump said that he and the Russian president “agreed to make our relevant teams start negotiations immediately” and that he would start by calling Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski to inform him about Their conversation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin supported Trump’s idea that the time had come to work together.
He added that the telephone conversation lasted about an hour and a half, during which Putin invited Trump to visit Moscow.
Later, Ukraine’s presidency confirmed that Zelenski had received a phone call from Trump, which lasted an hour, according to the AFP news agency.
The news comes when US Secretary of Defense Pete Heget told members of the NATO summit that it was “unrealistic” to expect Ukraine to return to its borders before 2014.
