The US and Iran are conducting “direct negotiations” for a possible nuclear deal on Saturday, Donald Trump said.

The discussions between Washington and Tehran will be at a very high level, the US president said on Monday before warning that it will be a “very bad day for Iran” if an agreement is not reached.

Last month, Trump raised the prospect of hostilities against Iran after his supreme leader Ayatola Ali Hamenei publicly rejected the proposal for direct conversationsS

Trump revealed negotiations after a White House meeting with Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu, who also had previously raised the prospect of attacking Iran to stop him from acquireing nuclear weapons.

Speaking in the oval office, Trump said: “We have a very big meeting on Saturday (with Iran) and we deal with them directly … and perhaps a deal will be made, that would be great.”

Later, Trump said that Iran would be in a “big danger” if the conversations were not successful, adding: “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and if the conversations are not successful, I think it will be a very bad day for Iran.”

The president did not provide further details about the conversations, including how much advanced or which employees were involved.

Iran did not comment publicly as Trump said direct contact had been made between the two countries that had not had official diplomatic relations since 1980.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi said: “We expressed our point of view: we are in favor of diplomacy and negotiations (with Washington), but only (through) indirect (channels).

“Of course, it must be acknowledged that a circle of negotiations has not been carried out so far.”

In March, Trump sent a letter to Iran’s leader through an intermediary from the United Arab Emirates, in which his willingness to negotiate.

This offer was rejected by Iran, although its management signals a willingness to discuss a possible deal with the United States through a third party.

Iran’s ability to build nuclear weapons is a key foreign policy goal for the United States and its allies for decades.

In 2015, then President Barack Obama concluded an agreement with Iran, which would limit his nuclear activities and allow international inspectors in the country to ensure that the facilities were used solely for civil purposes, not for arms production.

In return, Iran had to offer relief from sanctions that crippled its economy.

This agreement was signed by China, France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom.

However, in 2016, Trump unilaterally removed the United States from the deal in which he was highly critical during his first presidential election campaign.

In the coming years, Iran increasingly violated its conditions. The International Atomic Energy Agency has warned that Tehran has built large stocks of enriched uranium, which can be used to make nuclear bombs.

In recent months, Trump has repeatedly raised the prospect of negotiating a new agreement with Iran, while threatening hostilities if a person cannot be achieved.

Israel sees that it does not allow my opponent Iran to acquire nuclear weapons as a central to his long -term security. It has been reported that in recent months it has weighed its production facilities.

Last year, Israel said he had hit an Iranian nuclear facility in revenge for a worse rocket attack by Iran against Israel.

Speaking to the White House, Netanyahu said, “We and the United States are united in the goal that Iran never receives nuclear weapons.

“If this can be done diplomatically in a full way, the way it was done in Libya, I think that would be a good thing.”
