The Trump administration passed to end Harvard’s ability to enroll international students, escalating opposition to the largest university in America.

Interior Security Secretary Christie November wrote to X that the administration had canceled the certification of “Harvard student and visitor exchange as a result of their failure to adhere to the law.”

“Let this serve as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country,” she writes.

Harvard called the move “illegal” in a statement.

“We are fully committed to maintaining Harvard’s ability to host our international students and scientists who are native to more than 140 countries and enrich the university – and that nation – immeasurable,” the university said.

“We are working quickly to provide guidance and support to the members of our community. This responding action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country and undermines Harvard’s academic and research mission.”

The Trump administration decisions can affect thousands of international students studying at the university.

More than 6,700 international students have been enrolled in the institution in the last school year, they show university data, representing 27% of their student body.

The White House has requested Harvard makes changes to hire, acceptance and teaching practices To help fight anti -Semitism in the campus.

He threatened to cancel the status of university tax exempt and freeze billions of dollars in state subsidies.

Harvard said earlier that she had taken many steps to deal with anti -Semitism and that demands were efforts to regulate the “intellectual conditions” of the university.

In April, NOEM threatened to cancel the university’s access to student visa programs if it did not comply with the request of the administration of the administration relating to its international students.

In the letter on Thursday, November said that Harvard must comply with a list of requests in order to “be able” to regain the ability to enroll international students.

This included all disciplinary records for non -migrant students enrolled in Harvard in the last five years.

Nov also asked Harvard to overturn electronic records, videos or audio into “illegal” and “dangerous or violent” activity by non -immigrant students in the campus.

The notice gave Harvard 72 hours to comply with the request of the Ministry of Homeland Security.

The Trump administration has tried to dramatically limit visas for international students, causing chaos and confusion in university campuses in the United States and has led to a wave of lawsuits.

In some cases, these withdrawals appear to affect foreign students who have participated in political protests or have had previous criminal charges, such as driving violations.

“Let this serve as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country,” November wrote at X.
