Two British tourists drowned off the coast of a popular tourist city at the southern end of the Grand Barrier Reef.
A 17 -year -old boy and a 46 -year -old man were swept into the sea on Sunday while swimming on a beach without rescuers in seventeen seventy – a city in Queensland, called the year in which Captain James Cook arrived in Australia.
The couple was declared dead at the scene after being drawn from the water from a police rescue helicopter.
A man from Australia is also in a life -threatening condition after being swept into the sea and being airplane in hospital with serious head injuries.
While police reveal that the deceased is from the United Kingdom, their names have not yet been released.
“The mission on Sunday was difficult,” Caprescue, the emergency rescue service that found the three men shared on social media – adding that death had come “despite the best efforts of all participating.”
Police say the injured Australian man was from Monto, a city about 150 kilometers in the interior of seventeen seventy.
“We are not sure if the third person has jumped into the water trying to rescue,” said Surf Life Save Darren Everard Darren Everard from Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
There is only one beach patrolled by rescuers within a 50 -kilometer radius of seventeen seventy.
Police are healing drowning as unpleasant and will prepare a report on the corona.
One hundred and seven people drowned in Australia last year, with 25% born abroad, according to Royal Life Saving Australia.
Australia’s coastal casualties occur most of the rivers and headlines at ebb when “it’s chaos in the water,” explained Everard.
Speaking to ABC, he encouraged tourists to “seek local knowledge” and swim between the flags.
