Ghetto imagesFor hundreds of employees of 345 Park Avenue, an iconic 44 -storey skyscraper in the heart of Midtown Manhattan – a neighborhood full of offices of large corporations – Monday night suddenly became like no other.
As the travelers returned home in the suffocating July evening, the workers in the Tower of Park Avenue were drifting for their lives, barricading conference rooms with tables and sending close farewell reports of goodbye.
“I sent my parents,” I love them, “said Jessica Chen, who works on the second floor, told us the media.” Nothing can describe that feeling. “
D -Jong and others in the skyscraper were encouraged to act by the unexpected sound of rifles coming from the lobby.
The offer will kill four people, including a police officer in New York, as well as others in the lobby and on the 33rd floor. A man remains in a critical condition in a hospital.
Only moments before the chaos, around 6:30 pm EST (23:30 BST), 27-year-olds inserted into one of the busiest areas in Manhattan, ending a car walk in the country through Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa.
Authorities claim that Shane Tamura of Las Vegas has a double parking of his black BMW on Park Avenue – just blocks of Rockefeller Center tourist destinations and St. Patrick Cathedral.
Wearing a jacket, button shirt and sunglasses, he held a rifle in the style of his right hand, marching with determination to the skyscraper, where he knew the National Football League (NFL) was headquartered.
But he would never reach this office.
Instead, when he reached the doors of a 345 park, which extends entirely in New York, he began to “spray” the firing lobby, according to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tish.
At first, Tamura went right past an officer. But then he turned to the right, saw him and fired, killing a 36-year-old police officer in New York Didarul Islam, who leaves behind two children and a pregnant wife, said New York Mayor Eric Adams.
“He was killed at the entrance to the right as soon as he entered the building,” Adams said.
Tamura wastes some time before shooting another woman who is hiding behind a pillar, passing through the lobby and continuing to shoot, the authorities say. Wesley Lepatner, who works above in the Blackstone financial firm, was killed.
“Our prayers are with their husband, children and family,” the company said.
A NFL employee was “seriously injured” in the attack, NFL Commissioner Roger Gudel wrote to staff. Craig Clements, who worked in the financial department, was on his way home when he was shot, his father -in -law Robert Hunter told New York Daily News. He is now recovering from surgery.
As the shooting continues to pay, another security guard tries to activate an alarm system to deactivate the elevators, potentially preventing more carpets.
But the guard Allen Etienne was “killed” while hiding behind the counter, Adams said.
Then the weapon headed for an elevator. As he was waiting for the elevator, a woman appeared and somehow was allowed to get out of the unharmed, police said.
But the elevator he got on would not take him where he intended.
He had gone to the wrong elevator bank and arrived not at NFL offices, but in the offices on the 33rd floor of the real estate company that owned the building, Rudin Management.
While the chaos was unfolding in the lobby, the employees of the building were sending frantic messages by email and Microsoft teams that there was a shooter below, a Blackstone worker told the Wall Street Journal.
D -Jong told Abc News that he was watching a presentation on the second floor of the skyscraper with about 150 other people when they heard the first shots.
“Some came out on the back door, outside the street,” she said. “Other people, including me, came across the conference room.”
It seems that a photo distributed on social media shows that Blackstone employees who accumulate sofas, desks and other furniture in front of the door in panic.
Meanwhile, those in NFL offices have received messages from the league, warning them of firing, according to ESPN. They said to switch their phones to silence and hide until the law enforcement agencies arrive, they were waiting for a shooter who would never reach his goal.
On the square outside the Tower of Park Avenue, the law enforcement agencies flooded the scene.
Niak Lewis heard the sounds of quick shooting from the interior of the skyscraper while sitting nearby with a friend. She could see the gunman through the glass, she told NBC News.
Before understanding him, someone ran out of the building “really strong” to them and began to shout for help, saying that he was shot, said G -Ja Lewis.
“Because of how much he was running, I couldn’t believe it. He had what he looked like … an output wound in the back.”
She joined others by hiding behind a wall. As they were waiting, dozens of workers gradually rushed out of the building, holding their hands over their heads as they evacuated.
In the meantime, Tamura wandered on the 33rd floor, shooting circles, “as he was traveling,” said G -Ja Tish. He fired and killed his last victim.
Then, the authorities said, he walked down the corridor and shot himself in the chest.
Tamura uses an AR -15 -style rifle, which had assembled with a smaller receiver – or a gun frame – which an associate purchased for him.
With teams in two states, investigators are still working to track the Tamura Travel from Las Vegas to New York.
A shaking note of three pages was found on his body.
The shooter wrote that he suffers from CTE, a brain disease caused by head injuries such as those suffering from military battles and contact sports like American football. Officials also said that Tamura has a “documented mental health history”.
Tamura, who played football as a teenager – though not professionally, according to friends – “seems to have accused NFL”, said Mayor Adams.
“Study my brain. I’m sorry,” said the note.
