Uganda explores the death of Nigerian footballer at Vipers Sport Club

Police in Uganda are investigating the death of a Nigerian professional footballer who has allegedly fell from a shopping center in the capital, Campala.

It is reported that 29-year-old Abubacar Loaul fell from a balcony on the third floor of the voice shopping arcade where he had gone to visit a friend of Tanzania. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead, police said.

They said that Loal’s friend, identified as lobster Naim, left it in his room – which is part of the mall building – preparing tea before the incident happened.

Lawal was a striker playing for the local Vipers Sports Club team, who expressed his sadness for “the untimely passage of our beloved player.”

The stands are infused for the football player, who has been with Vipers since July 2022 after a two -year stay with AS Kigali in Rwanda.

In 2023, he helped Vipers win the League and Cup double.

The club said “Lawal (Man from Sokoto) was a unique man. He had a big gold heart. He really took care of the people and got out of his way to help. He was incredibly generous.”

“We mourn the sudden death of our former player Abubakar Laul earlier today. May God give him an eternal rest,” said his former team in Nigeria, Nasarava United.

“It is difficult to accept that you are no better, a talented, cheerful and loving person you were. You will be bro forever,” said Uganda footballer Mustafa Kitsa.

Local media say the question has left more questions than answering the background of controversial reports on the circumstances of Loal’s death.

Initially, some media reported that he had died in an accident with a motorcycle.

Police said the exact circumstances of death were investigated.

“Authorities are retrieving CCTV staff and conducting in -depth interrogations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said.

Police have removed some items belonging to the deceased player, including two smartphones, shoes, headsets and a workout kit.

“Additional updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” police added.
