Russia says that on Monday it will send a delegation to Istanbul for the second round of peace talks with Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow’s conditions for a temporary truce were developed and would be discussed in Turkey.
Ukraine said it remained involved in dialogue, but would not send a delegation until it received details about the proposal to end the fire of Russia.
The first round of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations at a low level took place earlier this month, resulting in both countries returning hundreds of prisoners in the largest exchange since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrius Sibiha said Ukraine had already sent its own “vision for future steps” in Russia, adding that Moscow “must accept an unconditional cessation of fire” to pave the way for wider negotiations.
“We are interested in seeing that these meetings continue because we want the war to end this year,” Sibiha said during a joint press conference with his Turkish colleague Hakan Fidan on Friday.
If the conversations continue on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski are not expected to attend.
But Fidan said Turkey hopes to host the high -level summit in the end: “We sincerely think it’s time to bring President Trump, President Putin and President Zelenski on the table.”
Peskov said Russia would have only fun with the idea of a high -level summit if meaningful progress was made in preliminary discussions between the two countries.
He welcomed comments made by Trump’s envoy in Ukraine, retired gene Keith Kite, who described Russian fears about NATO enlargement as “fair”.
Gen Kelloge said that Ukraine, joining the Military Union, long -time by Kiev, is not on the table.
He added that President Trump was “disappointed” by what he described as the tire of Russia, but stressed the need to maintain alive negotiations.
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz told Ukraine Zelenski that Berlin would help Kiev produce long -range missiles to protect himself from future Russian attacks.
The Kremlin stated that any decision to end the missile limits that Ukraine could use would be a dangerous change in policy that would harm efforts to end war.
Moscow currently controls 20% of the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine, including Crimea, which annexes in 2014.
