A flight, carrying 199 Venezuelans, deported from the United States to their homeland, landed at Simon Bolivar Airport near Caracas.
US Repatriation Flights to Venezuela stopped weeks ago The Trump Administration has canceled a license to allow Venezuela to export part of its oil in the United States, despite sanctionsS
But on Saturday, the two governments that have no diplomatic relations reached an agreement to resume flights as part of the Trump administration plan to eliminate the underdeveloped migrants.
Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro described flights as a chance for “rescue and free migrants from prisons in the US”.
As they descended from the plane early on Monday, some of the deportors raised their hands and waved.
Earlier, they were transferred from the US state of Texas to Honduras, to Central America, from where they were flew by Venezuelan Winner of the Koniassa banner in Maaker, north of Caracas.
The US Bureau of the Western Hemisphere described them as “illegal aliens” that “have no basis for remaining in the United States.”
The head of the Venezuela National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez, on the other hand, stressed on Saturday that migration is not a “crime”.
Initially, Venezuela had agreed to take Venezuelan deporters from the United States in a deal reached by Trump’s special envoy, Richard Graln in Caracas in January.
He was widely regarded as a victory for Trump, who made the deportation of underdeveloped migrants.
However, Maduro said on March 8 that the US administration’s decision to cancel the license of the oil giant Chevron to work in Venezuela has created a “small problem”.
“They damaged the line of communication we had opened and I was interested in those lines of communication … Because I wanted to take all the Venezuelans who have in custody, they are unfairly pursued,” he said.
A week later, the Trump administration deported 238 Venezuelans to the mega-prison in El Salvador, arguing that they were members of the criminal band of Tren de Aragua.
This caused a protest in Venezuela, where several relatives of the deported to El Salvador insisted that their relatives had no criminal ties.
The deportation of the Venezuelans to the Salvador’s frightened at Sekot Prison is followed by Warning published on x From US Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week that Venezuela will face “heavy and escalating” sanctions if he refused to accept her citizens deported from the United States.
The next day, Maduro ordered his government to “strengthen the actions needed to guarantee return flights for retained migrants.”
