The US President’s administration Donald Trump has ordered the embassies to stop planning student visa appointments as he is preparing to expand the social media check of such candidates.

In a copy of a note sent to diplomatic posts, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the pause would continue “until additional directions are issued.”

The statement states that the inspection of social media will be strengthened for visas for students and currency, which would have “significant consequences” for embassies and consulates.

He comes against the backdrop of Trump’s feud with some of the most elite colleges in America, which he believes are too left. He says some of them have allowed anti -Semitism in the campus and maintain discriminatory eligible policies.

The State Department’s memorandum, viewed by the US partner of the BBC News, directed the US embassies on Tuesday to remove all unfilled meetings from their calendars for students looking for visas, but said those with scheduled appointments could move forward.

The diplomatic cable also stated that the State Department is preparing to “expand the necessary inspection of social media and check” applicable to all applications for a student visa.

Foreign students who want to study in the United States are usually required to plan interviews at an US Embassy in their homeland before approval.

Many institutions rely on foreign students for a considerable part of their funding, as they often pay higher tuition fees.

When asked about student visas, State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce told reporters on Tuesday: “We take the process of checking in the country very seriously and we will continue to do so.”

The Trump administration has frozen hundreds of millions of dollars funding for universities and moved to deport students while taking thousands of visas for others. Many of these actions are blocked by the courts.

The White House has accused some universities in the United States of allowing propalist’s campus activism to be abducted from anti -Semitism.

Colleges have accused the Trump administration of trying to violate the rights of freedom of expression.

Harvard University is the main point of the rage of President Donald Trump. Last week, the Trump administration canceled Harvard’s ability to enroll international students or host foreign researchers. A federal judge is blocking politics.

If the measure is authorized, it can strike a university out of the university, where more than a quarter of students are foreign.
