The Trump Administration imposes sanctions on the US Council rapporteur Francesca Albanese, an outspoken critic of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio connects the transition to his support for the International Criminal Court (ICC), some of whose judges have already been sanctioned by the United States.

Rubio said the United States was sanctioning Albanian for direct involvement with the ICC in its efforts to pursue American or Israeli citizens, accusing her of being unfit for service as a special UN rapporteur.

Sanctions will probably prevent Albanese from traveling to the United States and block all the assets it has in the country.

This is the latest escalation by the Trump administration as it is campaigning against the MHC, already sanctioning four of its judges.

The United States has taken the action after the court issued arrest orders last year for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and its Defense Minister Joab Gallant over suspected war crimes in Gaza, accusations they reject.

Rubio also accused Albanz of “throwing away anti -Semitism, expressed support for terrorism and discovered contempt for the United States, Israel and the West.”

This move is likely to cause a fierce reaction from those who argue for accountability because of the civil death of death from Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

The special rapporteur has long claimed that Western governments are not doing enough to support the rights of Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Her outspoken position has attracted significant support among those who blame Israeli and US leaders in arms accusations of anti -Semitism to silence the control of their policies.

Its critics pointed out the language used in the past by Albanese, including a comment from 2014, when it proposed the “Jewish lobby” to influence US government decisions when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians.

Since then, it has been reported that she said she regretted the remark, but rejected the allegations that she was anti -Semite.

Amnesty International Head and former UN Special Relationship, Agnes Kalamarard, said he was worried about the decision on the sanction of Albanese.

“Governments around the world and all participants who believe in the rules based on the rules and international law must do their best in order to mitigate and block the effect of sanctions against Francesca Albanese,” she said.

Rubio said that Albanese has shown contempt for the United States by writing “threatening letters” to several US companies, making what he called unfounded accusations and recommended that the ICCs pursue the pursuit of companies and their executives.

“We will not tolerate these campaigns of political and economic war that threaten our national interests and sovereignty,” Rubio said.

Earlier this month Albanian summoned dozens of multinational companies To stop doing business with Israel, warning them that they risk being complicit in war crimes in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

She said the companies “win from the Israeli economy of illegal occupation, apartheid and now genocide” in the occupied Palestinian territories. Israel rejected its report as “unfounded”, saying that “he would join the bin of history.”

Albanese criticizes Donald Trump’s plan, declared in February, to take over the Gaza Strip and displace its inhabitants elsewhere.

“It’s illegal, immoral and … completely irresponsible, because it will make the regional crisis worse even more,” she said in February.

The time of the sanction message is remarkable with Netanyahu currently in Washington, where he received an extended honest border in the Pentagon on Wednesday.

Albazese had previously rejected such allegations against her, telling the BBC in October: “I do not accept these remarks and slander, which they carry lightly, but at the same time I know it was not for me, as my predecessors knew it was not about them.

“I also know that these Member States (charges of anti -Semitism) have done absolutely nothing to comply with international law.”

Her office is a comment.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to an attack led by Hamas against southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 others were hostage.

Since then, at least 57,575 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the health ministry in the territory.

The greater part of the gas population has also been replaced repeatedly. More than 90% of homes are estimated to be damaged or destroyed; Health, water, sanitary and hygiene systems have collapsed; And there is a shortage of food, fuel, medicine and shelter.
