The Dutch Town Hall admitted that “most likely” he accidentally ordered 46 works of art, including Angie Warhol’s imprint on the former Dutch queen, during the repair work last year.
The Maharsor Municipality said the works, including the silk stamp from the 1980s of Queen Beatrix, worth about 15,000 euros (12,800 British pounds), disappeared at work at the mayoralty last year.
An investigation said the works of art were stored in a basement during repairs and the lack of guidelines for storing works of art could have been among the reasons why they were eventually discarded.
Mayor Hans Van der Pas said to public television operator Omroep Brabant: “You are not so concerned with values. But it happened. We are sorry for that.”
A statement by the municipality on Thursday said that the works of art were stored at work at the Under mayoralty – which is included in the neighboring Landerd municipality to form the Mahasorti Municipality.
“The most likely works of art is to be accidentally taken away from the garbage,” they said.
Investigators’ report found that some of the works of art were stored in bins on wheels in the basement and were not carefully processed, “according to Daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
The report concludes: “Property has not been properly established, no policies and procedures have been established with regard to renewal, and no insufficient action has been taken when the works of art are missing.”
Continue that the lack of guidelines for registration, storage, preservation and security of works of art also contribute to factors.
Local media reported that a total of 46 works of art are worth about 22,000 euros (18,800 pounds), and Maharshti said they were unlikely to be found.
Queen Beatrix has reigned as Queen of the Netherlands since 1980, while she was rejected in 2013, when she was inherited by her son King Willem-Alexander.
The seal of Queen Beatrix was part of the Warhol series, ruling Queens, which consists of 16 colored prints of four monarchs, including the late Queen Elizabeth II, Margret II of Denmark – who abdicated themselves in 2023 – and Queen Ntomby Tula of Esvatini, as a watered.
Warhol, considered one of the largest artists of the 20th century, created the prints in 1985 -two years before his death.
In November last year, the Warhol prints of Queen Beatrix and Ntomb Tvilla were stolen – and abandoned – during the time of Hist at Dutch Art GalleryS
Local police at the time said the thieves had taken four silk prints from the MPV gallery in the province of North Brabant and fled by car.
But the portraits of Queen Beatrix and Queen Ntombi were later abandoned because they did not fit into the vehicle, NOS reported at the time.
