We can remove Syria Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham from the list of foreign terrorist groups

The United States is ready to download the Syrian Islamist group Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS) from their list of foreign terrorist organizations on Tuesday, according to a note from the State Department.

The group led an offensive to the rebels in December, which removed the Assad regime, which has ruled Syria for 54 years. Its leader Ahmed al -Sharaa is already temporarily acting president of the country.

HTS, also known as Al-Nusra Front, was previously the al-Qaeda branch in Syria until Al Sharaa divided the connections in 2016.

In recent months, Western countries have been striving to reset relations with Syria – which is facing severe sanctions aimed at the old regime.

At the end of June, President Trump signed an enforcement order for official terminated US sanctions against the countryWith the White House, saying that the move was intended to support “his path to stability and peace.”

He added that he would monitor the actions of the new Syrian government, including “taking specific steps to normalize Israeli relationships”, as well as “addressing foreign terrorists” and “ban on Palestinian terrorist groups”.

Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Sh-Shibani said this move would “raise the obstacle” of economic restoration and open the country for the international community.

On Friday, Syria said she was ready to cooperate with the United States to restore the 1974 separation agreement with Israel.

Over the weekend, the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lamie visit Syria – The first government minister to make it for 14 years.

He met with Al-Sharaa and announced an additional maintenance package of 94.5 million pounds, in terms of support for long-term recovery and countries that help Syrian refugees.

The United Kingdom has earned the sanctions of the Ministries of Defense and the Interior in Syria.

Ninety percent of Syria’s population was left below the poverty line when the Assad regime was removed after 13 years of devastating civil war.

Al Sharaa has promised new Syria, but there are concerns in the country about how the new government works – with some suspicious of its radical past.

So far, only one female government minister has been appointed – and Al Sharaa has made almost every other meeting directly.

There have also been numerous violent attacks on minority groups in recent months.

In March, hundreds of civilians from the Alawite minority sect were killed during clashes between the new Assad’s new security forces. In April there was Deadly clashes Between Islamist armed factions, security forces and the fighters of the religious minority of Druza. And in June, at least 25 people were killed in a suicide attack on a church in Damascus.
