Prime Minister Mark Carney met with US President Donald Trump in the White House on Tuesday and reiterated that Canada is “not selling” as the president raised the prospect of becoming the 51st US state.
Carney won the election last month, promising to “stand up” on Trump, which imposed tariffs on some Canadian products and sometimes talks about annexing the country.
The BBC talks to Canadians from all over the country in Montreal, in the Quebec province, to hear their thoughts about how Carney introduced himself at the meeting with his colleague and whether his result would have a lasting effect.
