Why did European leaders hold an emergency summit in Paris

French President Emanuel Macron welcomed European leaders at the Elisa Palace in Paris on Monday for an emergency summit during the war in Ukraine.

Peace negotiations to end the war will be held in Saudi Arabia between the US and Russia, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said he has no role in Europe in any peace talks.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said Kiev would not participate in the meeting between us and Russian officials on Tuesday.

Following the summit, German Chancellor Olaf Schloz said Europe and the United States should work together on security, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said there should be no solutions to Ukraine without his participation.
