Watch: Why the trip of King Charles III to Canada is more than a royal visit

The pompousness and the competition were completely displayed when King Charles arrived in Canada on Monday, on his first trip to the country after his coronation.

He must give the speech from the throne to open the 45th session of Canada Parliament in Ottawa on Tuesday.

The King is the head of Canada – from 13 other areas of the community such as Australia, New Zealand and several Caribbean countries – as well as the UK.

The king, who traveled with Queen Camilla, had previously traveled to Canada several times as a Prince of Wales. This is his 20th visit.

What is a speech from the throne?

The address on Tuesday will traditionally be given by the Governor General, who is the best representative of the monarch in Canada. They read it on behalf of the Prime Minister to determine the government’s agenda when a new parliamentary session is forthcoming.

The Chamber of the Municipalities and the Senate of Canada cannot conduct any public business before making a speech from the throne.

It is so called, as it is usually read from the seat of the House Senate, which is preserved for the monarch or their representative in Canada.

The current general governor is Mary Simon. But this time, the newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney has invited the king himself to open the new parliament.

When was the last time the Head of Canada read the throne speech?

Elizabeth II delivered the address in 1977.

Although it is not unprecedented for the throne speech to be read by the monarch, the last time it happened was in October 1977, when Elizabeth II read the speech for the second time. The first was in 1957

This will be the first time a king has been opened a new session to parliament. King Charles George VI’s grandfather gave royal consent to several bills when he visited Canada in 1939, but never made a throne speech.

Why was the king invited to Canada?

Earlier in May, Prime Minister Mark Karni said he had invited the King to officially open the 45th session of Canada Parliament.

His application is regarded as strategic as it appeared against the background of strained connections between Canada and its powerful neighbor the United States.

US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on Canada and has repeatedly called it “51st country.” He also disdainfully pointed to Carney’s predecessor Justin Trudeau as Governor Trudeau.

Speaking to Ottawa, Carney said that the visit of the King “clearly emphasizes the sovereignty of our country.” He told reporters, “This is a historical honor that corresponds to the gravity of our time.”

Canada General Mary Simon said the visit “emphasizes the lasting relationship between Canada and the crown.”

“Now more than ever, we must get together to guarantee a future based on our shared global values of democracy, equality and peace,” she said.

What do we know about the visit?

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at the McDonald-Cartie International Airport in Ottawa at 13:15 EST (17:15 GMT) on Monday and were greeted by Governor General Mary Simon, Prime Minister Mark Carney and his wife, Diana Fox Karni.

The Assembly of the National Chief of the First Nations Cindy Woodhouse Nepina, the President of Inuit Tapirit Kanatami Nathan Holves and the Chairman of the National Council of Metis Victoria Pruden were also at the airport.

The trip began at Lansdowne Park, where the royal couple met with individuals and organizations showing Canadian identity and diversity.

They then headed to Rido Hall – the residence of the Canada Governor and the Monarch’s official residence when he was in Canada. There, the king participated in a tree planting ceremony.

He then held separate private meetings with Simon and Carney.

On Tuesday morning, the King and the Queen will head to the Senate of Canada, accompanied by a royal companion, where they will receive full military honors-a 100-legged 100th guard for the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment, a security and 21st station check.

Shortly after 11:00 local time, the King will deliver his speech from the throne to open the 45th session of parliament.

The royal couple will then give respect to the fallen soldiers in Canada at the National War Memorial before leaving the country later that day.

In his role as head of state, the monarch is expected to avoid embarking on politics. Instead, he seems to have sent coded signals and made symbolic support gestures for Canada against Trump’s threats.

The King praised Canada as “proud, sustainable and compassionate country” in February, at the 60th anniversary of the first lift of the flag of the maple leaves of the country – an event that could otherwise pass without royal intervention.

When he visited the HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier on March 4, he appeared with a set of Canadian medals.

The same month as he was sitting for the Community Service – an annual holiday of the London Community countries – he made it to a Canadian chairman.

And at a tree planting ceremony in Buckingham Palace earlier this year, the tree he chose was maple.
