Now it is increasing the opposition to state censorship efforts through the new case.
According to a court filing X earlier this month, the agency has complained to the Government of India to create an illegal system through which countless government officials can implement content takdown or blocking orders through a website that social media agencies should be regularly checked.
Reuters, X’s case has alleged that this process has failed to meet the Indian legal protection in the removal of content, which requires “issued in cases such as sovereignty or public discipline and … with the strict supervision of top officials”.
X claims that the website has created “an unstable parallel process” that creates “uncontrolled censorship of information in India”, reports from the news agency. The company is hoping to use a legal route to cancel the directive, it says.
A brief hearing was held earlier this month, Reuters also said, but no verdict was made. Another hearing is expected to take place in the High Court in the state of South Karnataka next week.
