The Callsus Data Center operated by Jai outside Memphis is facing a case of the natural gas turbines without permission.
“In the past one year, Jai has installed and operated at least 35 combustion turbines and other sources of air pollution on the Callsus site without receiving the necessary pre -organization or operating air permit,” the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) wrote in a letter to XAI.
Legal group The letter submitted On behalf of the NACP. It acts as a notice as an intention to sue Jai for violation of the Clean Air Law. The law requires companies to submit this national letter 605 days before the law is filed.
Gas turbines are likely to emit more than 2,000 no.X Every year, a group of chemicals that contribute to smoke.
SELC notes Memphis already “Something worst air quality in this region”. “Memphis was considered as the capital of the nation by high rate from asthma in 2021 and the allergy foundation by the Allergy Foundation.”
SELC has complained that Jai Failed to get the permit Required by both the federal and the local regulator before the generator is installed. It also alleged that the company did not operate them with proper air pollution control. At one point, Jai had enough turbines to generate 421 MW of electricity.
Last summer, the Shelby County Health Department (SCHD), which observed the consent of local aircraft pollution, told reporters that Jai’s turbines were exempted from permission, though the SCHD has not yet publicly revealed what Joy is working on its site or is working on a legal exemption.
To determine what’s happening on the Calsus site, SELC paid a gaseous photographer Image capture Facility in March. Photos revealed that Jai installed 35 turbines around the data center enclosure at that time. The thermal images taken about a month later showed that at least 33 of them were effective, SELC said.
After these images were taken, the local economic development agency Greater Memphis Chamber reported that Jai had removed some turbines.
The Memphis Chamber is “temporary natural gas turbines used to get GPU in the first step before the grid connection is now being demobilized and will be removed from the site within the next two months,” Memphis Chamber DThe The company has added, “About half of the operating turbines will be” until the second substation completes the data center with the Grid, and when this substation is finished, the turbines will act as a backup.
However, on June 8, a flight showed that at least 26 turbines were including three new installed since the April aircraft. The total production capacity was about 407 MW, only 14 MW of the previous amount.
“Without very few exceptions – none of which applies here – new sources of criteria in Tennessee and other air pollutants must be permitted to pre -create in the form of an air permit, as well as permission to manage and emit the pollutants,” said SELC.
