X attracts tougher rules around parody accounts.

Since April 10, accounts who are introducing themselves to another user or person must use keywords such as “fake” or “parody” at the beginning of their account names.

The platform will also require parody holders to use different images to X accounts belonging to those who strive to represent.

Some users complain of confusion caused by parody accounts on the platform, such as those who introduce themselves to its owner Elon Musk.

“These changes are intended to help users to understand the better -not -to -date nature of PCF accounts and to reduce the risk of confusion or presentation,” the company of the company said in a Saturday postS

It encouraged the affected accounts to update their accounts to the date of application.

The changes will also apply to fans and comments accounts, the message said.

“We hope that this includes all thousands of fake Elon Musk account variations,” one user wrote in response to X’s post about his policy update.

“Time, I get a fake elon account that connects with me almost once a week,” another writes.

There are a number of parody accounts for the platform owner, identifying as a presentation in different ways.

The publications viewed by the BBC from the Elon Musk parody profiles ranged from memoirs and jokes, to promotion of cryptocurrency and car distribution.

A recent post from an account at Parody Elon Musk, which has more than one million followers, told users to “like and comment” on the chance to win Tesla.

The post received 428,000 likes and more than 200,000 answers.

X has unfolded parody account labels in January – upgrading its rules require Consumers involved in a performance for entertainment to identify themselves as such.

They and the Blue Tick check system on the platform are cited as tools to prevent misleading performance while allowing speech and discussion.

But the effectiveness of such measures is contested.

The EU said in July 2024 that blue ticks violate their rules for online content with its “checked” blue -tick accounts Having the potential to “mislead” usersS

Musk called the EU rules “misinformation” in response.

After its absorption in November 2022, Tesla CEO said The accounts involved in a marked performance will be prohibitedS

Many parody accounts of X identify their parody nature in brackets at the end of usernames, but this is not a stupid measure.

If the name of the parody account is especially long and only a shortened version appears in emissions or answers, users can involuntarily deceive themselves – especially if the account image matches the real person.
